The short version
LiveWire has no accounts and no servers. We never see your name, your email or your progress — the only thing the game saves is how many levels you have finished, and it saves that on your own phone.
The one exception is advertising. The rewarded videos between levels are served by Google AdMob, and for adult players Google collects device and advertising identifiers to do that. Section 4 explains exactly what that involves and how to limit it.
LiveWire is made for children as well as adults. Players under 13 — and anyone who does not give an age — see only non-personalised ads, and the app does not transmit their advertising ID or any other persistent device identifier. Section 10 sets out what that means for families.
1Who we are
LiveWire is developed and published by Vonkworks LLC, Austin, Texas, United States ("Vonkworks", "we", "us"). This policy explains how the LiveWire Android application, package name com.vonkworks.livewire, handles information.
For any question about this policy, write to livewire@vonkworks.com. Vonkworks LLC is the data controller for the limited processing described below.
2What LiveWire stores on your device
The game keeps a small amount of state in Android's private application storage so that it can resume where you left off. This data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to us.
| Stored value | What it is | Why |
|---|---|---|
| completed_levels | A single whole number. | So the campaign opens on the level you reached. |
| guide_seen_* | One yes/no flag per component tutorial card. | So the "New Parts" explainer for a component is shown once, not every time. |
| age_bracket | Whether the player is under 13 or 13-and-over — not a date of birth, and not an exact age. | So advertising can be restricted to non-personalised ads for children, as required by Google Play's Families policy. See section 10. |
That is the complete list. It contains no identifiers, and it cannot be tied to you as a person — the age answer is a single yes/no bracket, not a birthdate. It is stored in the app's sandboxed storage, which other apps cannot read, and Android deletes it when you uninstall LiveWire or clear its data.
3What we do not collect
We want to be explicit about this, because for a game of this kind the list matters more than what we do collect. LiveWire does not ask for, collect or transmit to us:
- Any account, username, password, email address or phone number — the game has no sign-up of any kind.
- Your name, date of birth, gender or any other profile information.
- GPS or precise location data. The app requests no location permission.
- Contacts, calendar, photos, files, microphone or camera access.
- Health, biometric, financial or payment information. There are no purchases in LiveWire.
- Analytics on how you play — we run no analytics SDK and receive no event data.
- Any personal or sensitive information from children, whether directly or through the SDKs the app uses. See section 10.
Vonkworks operates no server for LiveWire. There is no backend that could hold your data, because none is sent to one.
4Advertising
LiveWire is free and is funded by advertising. After you complete a level, a rewarded video advertisement is offered; watching it unlocks the next level. You are never required to watch one — you can decline and stay on the level. These advertisements are served by Google AdMob, a Google service, using the Google Mobile Ads SDK embedded in the app. AdMob is a Google Play Families self-certified ads SDK.
Your age decides how advertising works
LiveWire is a mixed-audience app: it is made for children and adults alike. The first time you open it, the app asks how old you are on a neutral age screen — a plain question with no pre-filled answer, nothing encouraging one answer over another, and no indication of what any answer unlocks. Your answer is stored on your device only. It is never sent to us or to anyone else.
Players under 13, and anyone who does not give an age, are treated as children. For them:
- The Google Mobile Ads SDK runs in child-directed mode, so Google applies its child-directed treatment to every ad request.
- Only non-personalised advertisements are requested. There is no interest-based advertising, no remarketing and no advertising profile.
- The app does not transmit the Android advertising ID, nor any other persistent identifier such as the SIM serial, build serial, BSSID, MAC address, SSID, IMEI or IMSI.
- Ad inventory is restricted to content Google rates as suitable for children.
Players aged 13 and over are treated as a general audience. For them, Google processes the information listed below to select and measure advertisements, and may personalise those advertisements subject to the consent rules further down this section.
What Google collects for general-audience players
Google — not Vonkworks — determines and controls this processing. It typically includes:
- Your Android advertising ID, a resettable identifier that Google uses to limit repeat ads and to measure whether an ad worked.
- Your IP address, from which an approximate (city-level) location can be inferred.
- Device and software information — model, operating system version, language, screen characteristics, network type and app version.
- Ad interaction data — that an ad was requested, shown, watched to the end, skipped or tapped.
We receive only aggregate, non-identifying reporting from Google, such as the number of ads shown and revenue earned. We cannot see who watched an ad.
Personalised advertising and consent
For general-audience players only, Google may use the data above to show personalised (interest-based) ads. Personalised advertising is never enabled for players treated as children.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the app presents a Google-certified consent message before advertising is personalised, and you may choose non-personalised ads instead. Players below the age of digital consent in their country are tagged as being under the age of consent, which forces non-personalised advertising regardless of any other setting. You can reopen the consent choice at any time from the app's Settings screen where the option is offered by Google's consent framework.
How to limit ad tracking yourself
Independently of any choice made in the app, Android gives you direct control:
- Open Settings → Privacy → Ads (the exact path varies by manufacturer and Android version).
- Choose Delete advertising ID to stop apps receiving an identifier altogether, or Reset advertising ID to start a fresh one.
Deleting the advertising ID does not remove ads from LiveWire, but the ads you see will no longer be personalised.
Google's own policies
Google's handling of this data is governed by its own terms, which we cannot vary. Please read: Google Privacy Policy, How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services, and About AdMob and user data.
5App permissions
LiveWire itself declares no permissions. The permissions listed on the Google Play store page are added automatically by the Google Mobile Ads SDK, and are used only to request and display advertisements:
| Permission | Used for |
|---|---|
| INTERNET | Requesting and downloading advertisements. |
| ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | Checking whether a connection exists before requesting an ad. |
| AD_ID | Reading the resettable Android advertising ID for general-audience players, as described in section 4. It is not read or transmitted for players treated as children. |
| WAKE_LOCK | Keeping the screen awake while a rewarded video plays. |
| FOREGROUND_SERVICE | Used by the ads SDK when preparing video content. |
| READ_BASIC_PHONE_STATE | Reading the general network type (for example mobile or Wi-Fi) to select suitable ad formats. It does not grant access to your phone number, call log or contacts. |
None of these permissions is used by the game itself. The puzzle campaign runs entirely offline; if you play with no network connection, everything works except the rewarded video.
6Crash and performance data
LiveWire contains no crash-reporting SDK. However, if the app crashes or freezes, Google Play may report that to us through Android vitals, a Google Play Console feature. We receive stack traces and aggregated device statistics (model, Android version, app version). These reports contain no information that identifies you.
Android vitals collection is controlled by your device setting for usage and diagnostics sharing with Google, not by LiveWire.
7Legal bases (UK & EEA)
If the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies to you, the legal bases for the processing described here are:
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) — for personalised advertising and any associated storage of, or access to, information on your device. You give or refuse this through the consent message described in section 4, and you may withdraw it at any time.
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) — for serving non-personalised advertising, preventing ad fraud, and keeping the app stable and secure. Our interest is in funding and maintaining a free game; we consider this to be balanced against your rights because the data involved is limited and not used to build a profile of you.
The on-device progress described in section 2 involves no personal data and no transfer to us, so no legal basis is engaged for it.
8Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, port or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to it.
Because Vonkworks holds no personal data about LiveWire players, we usually have nothing to disclose, correct or delete in response to such a request — and we cannot identify you from an app installation. In practice:
- For the on-device data in section 2, you exercise every one of these rights directly, by clearing the app's data or uninstalling it.
- For advertising data, the controller is Google. Requests should be directed to Google using the tools in its Privacy Policy, or you can limit collection at source using the device controls in section 4.
You may still write to us at livewire@vonkworks.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are in the UK or EEA, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.
9California residents
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, California residents have rights to know, delete, correct and opt out. As set out above, Vonkworks collects no personal information from LiveWire players, sells no personal information, and receives no money for disclosing personal information to anyone.
Advertising identifiers processed by Google for personalised advertising may constitute "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising under the CPRA. You can stop that at any time by deleting your advertising ID as described in section 4, by declining personalisation where a consent message is presented, or through the opt-out controls Google provides. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right.
We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age. Players treated as children under section 10 receive only non-personalised advertising, and no advertising identifier is transmitted for them, so no cross-context behavioural advertising takes place.
10Children and families
LiveWire's target audience includes children, so the app participates in Google Play's Families programme and follows the Google Play Families Policy. In the United States we comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). In the EEA and the United Kingdom we treat players below their country's age of digital consent as children.
We collect no personal information from children
Vonkworks collects no personal information from any LiveWire player, at any age — and that includes children. The app has no sign-up, no login, no profile, no chat or messaging, no user-generated content, no friend lists, no leaderboards, no purchases, no camera, microphone or location access, and no way of any kind to send information to us from inside the game. There is therefore nothing about a child for us to store, disclose, sell or delete.
This applies to the SDKs the app uses as well as to the app itself. The only third-party component in LiveWire is the Google Mobile Ads SDK, and section 4 describes exactly what it does — and does not do — for players treated as children.
Advertising shown to children
Children and players of unknown age receive non-personalised advertisements only. For those players the app does not transmit the Android advertising ID, the SIM serial, build serial, BSSID, MAC address, SSID, IMEI or IMSI. Interest-based advertising and remarketing are disabled, and ad inventory is limited to content Google rates as suitable for children. Advertising is delivered through Google AdMob, a Google Play Families self-certified ads SDK.
Rewarded advertisements are always offered, never forced: a child can decline the ad and remain on the level. LiveWire contains no purchases of any kind, so a child cannot spend money in it.
The age screen
Because LiveWire is made for a mixed audience, it asks for the player's age once, on a neutral age screen, before any advertisement is requested. The answer is kept on the device and is never transmitted. Declining to answer is treated the same as being under 13 — the more protective option.
Information for parents and guardians
- What is collected about your child by us: nothing.
- What leaves the device: an advertisement request containing no advertising identifier and no persistent device identifier. Google receives the request's IP address, as it must in order to return a response.
- Reviewing or deleting your child's data: because we hold none, there is nothing to review or delete. Clearing the app's storage resets the age answer and level progress; uninstalling removes both.
- Refusing further collection: uninstall the app, or play with the device offline — the whole campaign works without a network connection, and no advertisement is requested when there is none.
- Device-level control: you can also delete the device's advertising ID in Settings → Privacy → Ads. This affects every app on the device.
Contact for parents
If you are a parent or guardian and have a question about your child's privacy, or you believe a child has somehow provided personal information to us, write to livewire@vonkworks.com. We will respond and delete anything we hold within 30 days. Please mark the subject line "Parental request" so it reaches us quickly.
11Retention
- On-device progress and the age answer: kept until you clear the app's data or uninstall the app. We hold no copy.
- Advertising data: retained by Google under Google's retention policies. We have no control over, or access to, those records.
- Crash reports: retained in the Google Play Console for the period Google sets for Android vitals, and used only to fix defects.
- Support email: if you write to us, we keep the correspondence for up to 24 months so that we can follow up, then delete it.
12Deleting your data
There is no account to delete, so there is no deletion request to file. You can remove everything LiveWire has stored in a few seconds:
- Reset progress but keep the app: Settings → Apps → LiveWire → Storage → Clear storage. The campaign restarts at level 1 and the age screen is shown again.
- Remove everything: uninstall LiveWire. Android deletes the app's private storage with it.
- Advertising identifiers: delete or reset your advertising ID as described in section 4. This affects every app on the device, not just LiveWire.
13International transfers
Vonkworks LLC is based in the United States. Because we receive no personal data from the app, no transfer of your personal data to us takes place.
Google operates globally and may process advertising data in the United States and other countries. Where Google transfers data out of the UK or EEA, it does so under the safeguards described in its own privacy documentation, including the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
14Security
LiveWire's saved progress sits in Android's per-application sandbox, which other applications cannot read. The app makes no network requests of its own; all advertising traffic is handled by the Google Mobile Ads SDK over encrypted connections.
No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure. Because the app holds no personal data, however, the practical consequence of any compromise is limited to a count of completed levels.
15Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes — for example if we add a feature that stores something new. The "Last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version, and material changes will be noted on this page before they take effect. Continuing to use LiveWire after a change means you accept the updated policy.
